Thirst for Science is a monthly event held in popular South Miami locations where scientists explain their research in an accessible way to a general audience. Each event features a different scientist who will walk the group through their work, field questions from the audience, and relax with the attendees. All events are open to the public, so please stop by and enjoy!

CMRL is proud to collaborate with the Motivational Edge, a non-profit organization in Allapattah that provides after school programs for the youth. Once a month, the organization opens up its campus doors for a Family Fun Sunday. CMRL members volunteer at this event to teach kids all about the cardiovascular system. The Coulter Undergraduate Research Excellence Program (CURE) was developed to pair undergraduate students with a faculty mentor in order to cultivate and strive for research success. CMRL partners with the CURE program and undergraduate students to help them get involved in a lab and develop research skills in preparation for life after graduation. The FIU Engineering Expo is the college’s premier community outreach event organized annually and welcoming more than 1,400 K-12 students from Miami Dade and Broward County Schools (elementary, middle and high schools) to the FIU Engineering Center to engage FIU students, researchers and staff, and to discover the endless possibilities of STEM. CMRL participates every year and introduces kids to the basics of cardiovascular research.
The next Engineering Expo will be held on February 22, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the FIU Engineering Center.
